The Mississippi Local Section of the American Chemical Society excitingly announces this 2021 Virtual Undergraduate Research Symposium. We hope this venue will allow undergraduate chemistry research students an opportunity to present their research at a professional conference amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Student presenters will register for the symposium at the link above. Students will then prepare 10 minute voice-over PowerPoints (.mp4 files) for submission. Help with preparing these files is provided below. Submitted presentations will be uploaded to YouTube (unlisted) and displayed on this website for viewing. There will be a full page dedicated to showing all of these student presentation videos sortable by category and school. A panel of judges will view the videos and select a group of at least 5 winners. The winners will all receive a $50 award and will be invited to present their research live via Zoom during the Live Winners’ Presentations on April 20th.

There are two main formats to submit a presentation. The voice-over PowerPoint is the preferred method of submitted presentation. Any screen capture software can be used, but we recommend using Zoom or the narration recording built into the PowerPoint program. Using Zoom to record the presentation allows a small window (picture-in-picture) of the student presenter to be visible on top of the slides – which we highly recommend. The presentation can then be saved as a .mp4 file. More information on how to do this is provided below. This is the only format that will be considered in judging for the Live Winners’ Presentations on April 20th. Submissions should be emailed directly to firstname.lastname@example.org and are due April 9th. If the file is too large for email, please upload the file to an online cloud storage website (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) and email a link for download.
- 10 minute voice-over PowerPoint submitted as a .mp4 video (highly preferred)

Submitted presentations will be uploaded to YouTube. These videos will be unlisted, which means they will not be searchable or listed on youtube.com. Instead these videos will be embedded here on mississippiacs.org for viewing from April 12-19. Please check back when that page is made available.
Winners’ Presentations Live on Zoom
On April 20th from 4:00-6:00 pm the selected winners will present their research live in an online, virtual symposium format. A Zoom link will be sent out beforehand. We welcome all students, faculty, and other interested parties to watch and listen in and ask questions for these highlights of undergraduate student research in Mississippi.
